Schlachter Building
History
2
Built at 123 E. Commercial Ave. in 1910 by Nicholas Schlachter, the building was occupied by Gettysburg State Bank in 1920 and then absorbed by Potter County Bank in 1927. Its bank vault is still intact. The large structure housed a variety of stores and mercantile shops. Its first granite column arrived by rail from Milbank, South Dakota, was rejected, and a second column was then shipped and installed.
