Nearly 3 inches of rain fell in Glendive in an immense downpour that flooded the city's main streets, covered sidewalks to an average depth of 10 inches, and damaged businesses along Merrill Avenue. The ground floors of stores and offices were submerged up to 18 inches deep, and basements flooded from backwater that could not flow through the city's sewer system. Although Glendive was accustomed to ice jam flooding, the Yellowstone Monitor called this the city's first experience with flooding from a cloudburst. Farmers reported little damage because grain had already been cut and threshing had already begun.
