ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain is a nonprofit science and nature museum on Burlington’s waterfront devoted to the ecology, culture, history, and stewardship of the Lake Champlain Basin. Opened in 2003 as a hands-on, family-friendly institution, it combines interactive exhibits, a 3D theater, traveling exhibitions, and living collections of more than 70 animal species to connect science learning with regional identity. The broader campus honors Senator Patrick Leahy and also includes University of Vermont and Lake Champlain Basin Program facilities, plus the Lake Champlain Navy Memorial. The site is also notable for environmental leadership as Vermont’s first LEED-certified green building and for adding a major solar canopy in 2018.
