At Butler Church, about one mile west, lies the burial plot of the Butler family, including the graves of William Butler, a captain in the American Revolution, a United States Congressman, and a major general of South Carolina militia; Andrew Pickens Butler, a United States Senator; and Pierce M. Butler, Governor of South Carolina, who was killed in the Mexican War.
