Selden Neck State Park is a six hundred seven-acre public recreation area on Selden Island in Lyme, Connecticut, a roadless island on the east side of the Connecticut River accessible only by boat. Acquired beginning in 1917 among Connecticut’s earliest park lands, it remains largely undeveloped, with wooded terrain, tidal marshes, trails, fishing, hunting, and primitive riverside camping. The island also preserves evidence of earlier use, including the remains of a late nineteenth-century red sandstone quarry and part of its causeway. Archaeological excavations in the 1980s uncovered part of a substantial Middle Woodland village dated to around 1000 CE, linking the island’s natural setting to both industrial and Indigenous history.
