High Shoals lay 2.9 miles south on the Rocky River, where the Anderson Water, Light, & Power Co., organized in 1894 by William C. Whitner, succeeded the next year in transmitting electricity six miles to Anderson, an achievement that heralded the industrial revolution in the South.
