Montgomery County honored World War heroes who died in service, including William Bryan Ackles, Edward Barnes, Oscar L. Benson, Andrew J. Brown, Frank R. Brown, Estey Harold Brownlee, John Bruce, Marion R. Campbell, Paul Denlinger, Henry H. Fall, Victor Frist, Lawrence W. Gridley, Charles E. Hand, George H. Hawkins, Rennie E. Henry, James M. Herbert, Clem Hite, Clem Hobbs, George V. Hunt, Ernest G. Johnson, George F. Jones, Glen R. Kendrick, John I. M. Kindberg, Rupert D. Knee, Frederic W. Lampman, Axel Herman Larson, Clarence Anders Lonn, Daniel L. A. Mainquist, Frank Montgomery, Leonidus S. Munday, Elmer V. Nord, Lester D. Purcell, Robert H. Reed, Myron I. Rickelton, Elmer G. Sander, Maurice Bremner Stephenson, Ernest R. Talbott, Norbert T. Wilson, and Orville C. Winters. It also honored Montgomery County World War heroes who died after the war: Capt. John C. Christopher, who received two citations and three decorations, William N. Donohue, chaplain, Louis A. Taylor, Clarence B. Isaacs, John Donald Butler, Frank J. Taylor, Clarence A. Quist, Emanuel S. Trybom, and Reuben E. Swanson. The memorial was presented in memoriam by the National Daughters of the Grand Army of the Republic, American Legion Auxiliary, Rotary Club, M.W.A. 338, and R.N.A. 371. The two thousand four restoration of the World War I Memorial Fountain was made possible by contributions from citizens, businesses, and groups of Montgomery County and the surrounding area, and was dedicated to the memory of Charles E. Good, nineteen twenty-one to two thousand four, in recognition of his generous contribution to completion of the restoration project.
