Franklin Delano Roosevelt died in this house on April 12, 1945. He was honored as having given his life for his country, with no soldier said to have given more on any battlefield, and as a martyr in the cause of freedom. In 1944, the Presidential Electors chose him President of the United States for his fourth term.
