In Roscoe Village at Coshocton, Ohio, the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum brings together local history with collections from many cultures. It grew from the gifts of brothers John and David Johnson, who left more than 15,000 objects to their hometown so a museum could honor their parents, and it opened in 1931. Its holdings now exceed 17,000 objects and range from prehistoric Ohio Native American artifacts to Asian art and American and European decorative arts. Notable pieces include the Rothenstein Cache of Adena-era black flint blades and the disputed Newark Holy Stones, now generally regarded as 19th-century forgeries but still significant in Ohio archaeology’s history.
