Organized in 1857 in the home of Dr. Stephen S. Taylor, a lay preacher, this congregation is believed to have been the first of any faith to worship in Palo Pinto. Its members built the church in 1882-1883, and despite storm damage in 1883, the building has remained in continuous use, sometimes serving other faiths during their early years. Addison and Randolph Clark, founders of Texas Christian University, were early pastors.
