At Leinenkugel's, bottling and canning capabilities improved over the years. Early beer was bottled in 64 oz. picnic bottles, 32 oz. quarts, 12 oz. pints, and 8 oz. splits. Leinenkugel's was an early seller of cans, including the steel cone top, first filled in the 1930s using standard bottling equipment. From the 1960s through the 1980s, the Bottle House mainly filled 12 and 7 oz. returnable bottles, which were cleaned, sterilized, and refilled for retail. Beginning in the 1940s, Leinenkugel's packaged its own flat top steel can, then switched to an all-aluminum can in the 1980s.
