In 1848, before construction began on the Old Mission Church, a horse-powered grist mill with a half-timbered frame was fashioned through the collaboration of brother "blacksmith," either brother Charles Huet or Classans, and brother Magri. The mill served the Mission during its active years and later served pioneer settlers. It was used for grinding grain, and wheat was the main grain milled at the Mission.
