Barnabas Kelet Henagan (1798-1855), son of Drusilla and Darby Henagan, was a planter and physician who lived about one mile northwest of this site. He served as senator for Marlboro District from 1834 to 1838, lieutenant governor of South Carolina from 1838 to 1840, and governor of South Carolina in 1840. He moved to Marion District in 1843, served as senator for Marion District from 1844 to 1846, and was South Carolina secretary of state from 1846 to 1850.
