Squire Mott Grist Mill
Industry
3
Near this site in 1814, Charles "Squire” Mott constructed a dam at Swan River and built a grist mill on it with a home beside it. Mills like Squire Mott's, and later factories on Patchogue's three streams, established Patchogue as a manufacturing center on the south shore of Long Island and earned it its first nickname, "Milltown."
