Built between 1835 and 1838 in Quincy, Illinois, the John Wood Mansion is a prominent Greek Revival house closely connected to the early history of Adams County and Quincy, which John Wood helped establish. Wood and his family moved into the house in 1837, and he later became Illinois's 12th governor in 1860 after William Bissell's death. Known for its imposing design, the 14-room mansion features four large Doric columns that Wood turned himself, along with ornate details and original family furnishings. It later survived relocation and gained recognition on the National Register of Historic Places and in statewide architectural honors.
