Two hundred years ago, a small building stood about 100 metres north of here near the water's edge, where representatives of the British government and the First Nations met. These meetings were crucial in creating an alliance between the two groups during the War of 1812. No images survive of the structure except a small rectangle on a map. A 20th-century recreation shows Chief Tecumseh meeting General Isaac Brock for the first time, an event that may have taken place at the Council House, and suggests the formality with which meetings between First Nations representatives and senior British officers were conducted.
