Smith Schoolhouse, named for Uncle Harve Smith, patriarch of the Smith family in this community, was built in 1911 on two acres of land bought for $5.00. It served as a seat of learning for readin' 'ritin', and 'rithmetic until 1923, when it was consolidated with others to form Meek School. Its first teacher was Jesse G. Davis, and its last teacher was Miss Lollie Young. From the beginning, the schoolhouse also served as a church, where children learned the Ten Commandments and area residents were inspired by good singin', good preachin', praisin’ of the Lord, and the old-time religion.
