William Henry Newman was regarded as one of the foremost railroad managers in the country and was an associate of the great railroad builders. He succeeded Cornelius Vanderbilt as president of the New York Central R.R. from 1901 to 1909, merged 14 lines into the New York Central System, and planned the Twentieth Century Lmtd. and Grand Central Terminal. He was born in Metcalfe County in 1848 and died in New York City in 1918.
