Barn
Live Oak, Texas
· Harrison Homestead
History
8
The barn that once stood on this location was central to the homestead's farming operations. It replaced a smaller structure that was original to the farm. By the time the City rehabilitated the other buildings, the barn was in such disrepair that it had to be dismantled for safety considerations. All of its materials were salvaged after demolition and reused to repair and reconstruct other site structures. The barn measured 945 square feet and 15 feet high at the roof's ridgeline. As was typical of the day, it was used primarily for storing hay and corn grown on or near the farm, including some hay grown on leased land adjacent to the Stage Stop.
