Jean Baptiste Point DuSable, an African American considered the founding father of Chicago, resided on this property. In 1800 he moved to St. Charles and worked as a fur trader until his death. Philippine Duchesne arrived in St. Charles in September 1818, the week after DuSable's passing. Alexander McNair, Missouri's first governor from 1820 to 1824, also lived in a stone house on this property while the legislature was in session. The property was acquired by the Academy of the Sacred Heart in December 2010.
