The house at 220 S. Mechanic St. was built by merchant William F. Parshall in 1848 and was bought by Judge J.A. Runyan in 1885. He and his wife moved in on Thanksgiving Day, and for 45 years it was their home. The house became well known in Lebanon for hosting visiting dignitaries, who were “most royally” entertained by the beloved and trusted attorney. During Lebanon's Centennial in 1902, US Sen. Hanna and Ohio Gov. Nash dined there. In 1931, Mrs. Hester Carr leased the house and later bought it, turning it into the East Orchard Nursing Home, described as “one of the leading institutions of its kind” in Ohio. In 2000, the home was sold and once again became a beautiful single family dwelling.
