The Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art in Roswell, New Mexico, opened in 1994 from the Roswell Artist-in-Residence program and the collection Donald B. Anderson began assembling in 1967. An oil industry founder and executive who later became a painter and collector, Anderson sought to bring nationally known artists and contemporary art to Roswell. The museum remains focused on work by artists connected to the residency rather than a broad survey collection, including figures such as Luis Jiménez, Milton Resnick, Olive Ayhens, Judy Richardson, Johnnie Winona Ross, and Robbie Barber. Since June 2002, it has been administered by the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Foundation.
