Founded under Spanish rule circa 1778 by Canary Islanders, Valenzuela Dans La Fourche was later joined by Acadians and others. The post is believed to have stood on the site of Belle Alliance Plantation, an 841-acre grant to Don Juan Vives, an early Spanish physician and officer in the Galvez Expedition.
