Long Beach Presbyterian Church was organized by Rev. Hervey McDowell, evangelist for Meridian Presbytery, as a Home Mission church with 17 charter members. Its organizational meeting was held in the Methodist Church, where services continued until a building was completed in 1912 on a site given by Mrs. M. E. Quarles. Rev. H. L. Jenkins was called as the first pastor in 1913. In 1936, an unused Episcopal church was purchased and dismantled, and an educational building was erected from its materials. The church became self-supporting in 1947, and Rev. T. J. Wharton became the first full-time pastor. The educational building was enlarged in 1950, a new building was erected in 1964, and the educational building was remodeled as McInnis-Wharton Hall in 1987.
