Sandy Hollow Heritage Park and Birmingham Hill preserve open spaces that provide public access to part of the Brandywine Battlefield National Historic Landmark, where the most intense fighting of the Battle of Brandywine took place at Sandy Hollow on September 11, 1777. Birmingham Township honors patriots, past and present, whose courage and valor support the cause of liberty, echoing George Washington's words from his Farewell Address of September 17, 1796, that independence and liberty were won through joint councils, joint efforts, common dangers, suffering, and success.
