Harmony Baptist Church, the oldest church in Etowah County, was organized on Saturday, April 2, 1831, at Harmony Meeting House, which had been built in 1821 at this location by Edmond Jones. In 1836, the Wills Creek Baptist Association was organized here, with Harmony as the mother church. The cemetery has served as the burial site of some of the area's earliest settlers. Charter members were Lemuel Gilbert, Nancy Camp, Mary Elberson, John Melton, Elizabeth Gilbert, Susan Gilbert, William Morgan, Ruthe M. Gilbert, Rody Gilbert, Archibald Sutherlin, Sarah Melton, Jane Gilbert, Mark Phillips, Nancy Bolin, Nancy Jones, Jilson Gilbert, Luvica Jones, Polly Morgan, William Melton, Nancy Phillips, Nancy Morgan, Nedley, a colored man, Distimony Shuffield, Jane Best, George, a colored man, Docie Dunaway, Elizabeth Perry, and Milly Jones.
