Around 1886 to 1890, the Florida Chautauqua resort and campus featured wooden sidewalks throughout its once-gated grounds. Campus leaders designed the grounds to create a luxurious atmosphere and marketed the place as "The Education Resort of the South." Before permanent structures were built, tented classrooms for many educational activities were erected along this wooden sidewalk.
