Falls Park is Sioux Falls' central public landscape, built around the Big Sioux River falls that gave the city its name. More than 128 acres of paths, overlooks, quartzite outcrops, and viewing platforms center on water that drops 100 feet each second. The park also preserves important pieces of the city's early built environment, including the former 1908 hydroelectric plant now occupied by the Falls Overlook Café, the remains of the seven-story Queen Bee Mill, and a quartzite barn now used for the Stockyards Ag Experience. Together these features unite natural scenery, failed industry, agriculture, and civic history at the city's point of origin.
