Kingfield
History
1
In 1846, David and Sarah Hawks King came from Warren County, N.C. to settle fifty acres on Backbone Ridge between Leiper's Fork and Smith's Spring. Their homestead in the vast forest gave Kingfield its name. The Kings reared a large family consisting of Katherine, Mary Ann, Peter, Madison, Clinton, Lorenzo, Washington, Richard, Solomon, and Sarah. Other Kingfield families include the descendants of William Howell, Bennett Hargrove, Nicholas Waller, David Furlough, John Burdette, and Stephen Wilson. Kingfield children attended Pond School from 1900 until 1949. Area churches include Pond Church of Christ, and Kingfield Seventh Day Adventist. The latter began as a mission in 1917 and organized as a church in 1938.
