On Friday, May 2d, 1806, the Corps of Discovery camped near this spot in fair weather with a southwest wind while returning to St. Louis. They recorded seeing deer, sandhill cranes, beaver, and otter. Camas was in bloom along Patit Creek, and both Lewis and Clark compared this land to the rich fertile bottomland along the Missouri and Ohio Rivers. North of this camp was the trail they followed on the morning of May 3rd, a route now partly retraced by Ronan Road.
