On May 31, 1941, at Pearl Harbor, Julius wrote to a friend that he was doing well but that, because of the present state of emergency, the Pacific Fleet was being held in Hawaiian Territory. Away from the things that reminded him of the good old days, he asked for information about his class ring, which he had missed because of lack of funds, and said he would be glad to pay any price to have it.
