Remembered are First Lieutenant Robert Augustine Seidel, III of Emmitsburg, Maryland, born October 27, 1982, killed in action May 18, 2006, at age 23 in Baghdad, Iraq, serving with the United States Army, 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York; Captain John Ryan Dennison of Ijamsville, Maryland, born February 22, 1982, killed in action November 15, 2006, at age 24 in Balad, Iraq, serving with the United States Army, 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Staff Sergeant Charles Isaac Cartwright of Union Bridge, Maryland, born March 23, 1983, killed in action November 7, 2009, at age 26 in Farah Province, Afghanistan, serving with the United States Marine Corps, 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California; Sergeant David James Smith of Frederick, Maryland, born February 16, 1984, died January 26, 2010, of injuries sustained January 23, 2010, at age 25 in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, serving with the United States Marine Corps, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Marine Division, Maritime Forces Reserve, Camp Pendleton, California; Sergeant First Class Lance Herman Vogeler of Frederick, Maryland, born August 9, 1981, killed in action October 1, 2010, at age 29 in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, serving with the United States Army, 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, HHC, Mortar Platoon, Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia; Corporal Kurt Steven Shea of Frederick, Maryland, born February 10, 1989, killed in action May 10, 2010, at age 21 in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, serving with the United States Marine Corps, 3rd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, NC; Specialist Ronald H. Wildrick, Jr. of Byram, New Jersey, and Woodsboro, Maryland, born August 22, 1981, killed in action December 11, 2011, at age 30 in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, serving with the United States Army, 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; and Sergeant David Vincent Williams of Urbana, Maryland, born October 22, 1987, killed in action August 18, 2012, at age 24 in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, serving with the United States Army, 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry, Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington. Their sacrifices and heroism are remembered with gratitude for preserving liberty and freedom.
