Built on El Camino Real about 1840 by Samuel Flournoy for his wife Minerva (Wadington) and their family after they moved to Texas from Mississippi, this two-story log dwelling stood in the Chireno area on 300 acres they purchased. Flournoy, an active community member, was appointed a Republic of Texas postmaster in 1843 and continued as postmaster under the United States Postal Service. The house served as the post office for a fifteen-mile radius and became a popular halfway stop on the stagecoach route between Nacogdoches and San Augustine, Texas. After acquiring an additional 500 acres, the Flournoys sold the property in 1852 and moved away. Ownership changed several times until H.R. Granberry bought the house in 1917, and it remained in his family until 1981. The house was moved twelve miles east of Nacogdoches in 1984, then returned in 1988 to the Flournoy homestead within one-quarter mile of its original location. Constructed of hewn square-notch logs, it is two rooms wide, one room deep, and centered on a dogtrot hall, and it was restored through the efforts of local citizens.
