At this place in June 1845, the first horse thief detective association organized in the U.S.A. was founded, and it was incorporated in February 1848. Its incorporators included James Meharry, William Cosseboon, Absolom Kirkpatrick, Jesse MeHarry, Christian Coon, Elias Moody, John M. Thomas, James Gregory, Thomas Meharry, Edward McBroom, and their associates and successors to the number of two hundred. In its preamble, the citizens of Montgomery, Tippecanoe, and Fountain Counties in Indiana pledged their sacred honor to assist one another in suppressing horse stealing, horse robbing, pick-pockets, and other thieving, to recover stolen horses and other property, to apprehend thieves, and to better their social movements under this preamble and constitution.
