David Hogan brought his family to Walnut Grove from North Carolina in 1830 and was buried in this cemetery in 1840. Three of his children are buried here, including Charlotte, the wife of J.N. Churchill, for whom the town of Charlotte is named. The community once had an M.E. Church South, a school, general store, post office, and gristmill.
