The Japanese-American 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, and Military Intelligence Service units of World War II became the most highly decorated units in military history. They exemplified duty, honor, and country while taking on some of the toughest assignments of the war. The 442nd's rescue of the Lost Battalion coined the meaning of the phrase "Courage under Fire." The 100th Infantry Battalion earned the tag "Purple Heart Battalion" at Monte Cassino. The Military Intelligence Service were called the "eyes" and "ears" of every combat command, and the secret nature of their work kept them out of history's spotlight. Their accomplishments were unparalleled at the time and remained so through history. Muneo "Mike" Okusa of the Military Intelligence Service was remembered for a kind and humble spirit by his family and those he served with.
