The former Keeney Creek Branch Railroad leads to the site of Nuttallburg, a coal mining town that existed from 1870 until 1958. Several structures and many building foundations remain there, and the site offers a look at life in a New River Gorge mining town. Nuttallburg stands as an example of America's coal mining heritage, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and illustrates the evolution of coal mining technology and the social conditions that accompanied the coal industry for nearly a century.
