Dead Horse Ranch State Park is a public recreation area on Arizona’s Verde River in the Verde Valley, within the Verde River Greenway, at about 3,300 feet in elevation. Once the Ireys family ranch, it was sold to the state of Arizona to become a public park. The park covers 423 acres and offers riverfront recreation, camping, picnic areas, and hiking, including access to the nearby Dead Horse Trail System on Coconino National Forest land. It also serves as a community gathering place for nature-focused events, including the April Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival and September’s Verde River Day celebrating protection of the river’s riparian landscape.
