On March 17, 1937, Bristow celebrated the dedication of the Klingensmith Park Amphitheater with the arrival of Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt. The facility was built through the combined efforts of the National Youth Administration and the Works Progress Administration. Students walked from area schools, the Bristow High School band performed, and local and state dignitaries attended. More than ten thousand visitors watched Mrs. Roosevelt deliver her dedication speech, after which Mrs. John Collins presented her a small gift from the City of Bristow. The Bristow Youth Center and Klingensmith Park Amphitheater were both dedicated that day. Klingensmith Park and the amphitheater are named for Bristow native Cpl. Peter Klingensmith, the first Bristowan killed in World War I on Oct. 24, 1918.
