Known as “Last Stop U.S.A.,” Camp Shanks was a military facility from which more than 1.3 million troops departed to fight the Nazis in World War II. Trains took GIs from this location to ships that carried them to Europe. They fought and won battles from D Day at Normandy to final victory in Berlin on May 8, 1945.
