Part of the property north of this site was once a farm belonging to John H. Rose, an area pioneer from Fayetteville, N.C. A grist mill and saw mill on the property were burned by Gen. Sherman's army. Buried there in unmarked graves are John H. "Jack" Rose, who died in 1882, his first wife Mary Cooper Rose, who died in 1858, and their daughter Rhoda, who died in 1862.
