In 1870, the year the Groezinger Winery, now Vintage 1870, was built, California flew both the California Bear flag, then more primitive in design than the present-day version, and the American flag with 37 stars. The 37-star American flag became the official national flag in 1867 after Nebraska was admitted as a state, and it remained official until July 4, 1877, when it was replaced in celebration of Colorado's statehood, achieved the year before. During this period, Andrew Johnson, Ulysses S. Grant, and Rutherford B. Hayes served as U.S. Presidents.
