Reddish Knob, a summit on Shenandoah Mountain along the Virginia–West Virginia line in George Washington National Forest, is one of Virginia’s highest points and is unusual for being reachable by a narrow paved road from Harrisonburg. Known for sweeping 360-degree views, it sits where waters flow into separate branches that ultimately reach the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay. The summit long served as a lookout, with a steel fire tower standing there from the 1920s until 1975. Today it is a popular high-country destination for day visitors, while surrounding roads lead to picnic areas, wilderness, open balds, primitive campsites, and endurance-event routes.
