Forwood Preserve
Nature
Forwood Preserve is an eleven-acre old-growth forest remnant in northern Delaware near Lynnfield, where Fox Run flows through woodland now largely surrounded by suburban development. Once known as the Allen Tract and associated with the Forwood family, the land was slated for development in 1968 until neighbors organized to save it. The preserve is valued for protecting older forest habitat in a heavily built-up landscape and for its diverse mature trees, including eastern white pine, American holly, eastern hemlock, red maple, white oak, American beech, and river birch. It also connects at one point to Carcroft Crest Park near Stony Run Drive.
