Built circa 1905 by the Pennsylvania Railroad for the Allenwood, New Jersey, station crossing, this watchman’s shanty was moved in 1930 to Broad Street in Manasquan, New Jersey. After being abandoned in 1964, it was rescued and used as a garden shed at a private residence, then donated and moved to NJMT in November 1991. Crossing watchmen guarded traffic from trains, and most of these men were near retirement or partially disabled.
