Blooming Grove School grew with the community from an 1869 donation of land by early pioneer Richard Gowan one mile southeast of this site, where citizens of Gradyville, later renamed Blooming Grove, built a small white structure that served as a church, community meeting place, and school, with the Rev. G.P. Miller as its first teacher. After that building became too small, a larger frame school was erected near the town's general store in 1878. When the Cotton Belt Railroad completed a new line from Corsicana to Hillsboro in 1888, the town moved one mile north to New Blooming Grove on the rail line, and by 1890 another school, a two-story frame structure, had been built there. In 1910 a red brick school building replaced the frame one, and the Blooming Grove Independent School District was created by the legislature in 1917. Superintendent S.W. Henderson, who served from 1920 to 1925, secured accreditation for the school. By 1930 the red brick building had deteriorated so badly that it was condemned, and classes met in area churches until another building was erected the following year. Enrollment continued to increase, leading to completion of a new junior and senior high school in 1984 and a new elementary school in 1985.
