Houmas House began as a Houmas Indian land grant that was sold to Conway and Latil in 1774. It was sold to Revolutionary War hero Wade Hampton in 1811. The Greek revival mansion was built by John Smith Preston in 1840 and restored by Dr. George Crozat in 1940.
