Falls Road Park in Potomac, Maryland, is a county park that serves both neighborhood and regional recreation, but its greatest significance lies in the inclusive playground created there as Hadley’s Park. Inspired by Shelley Kramm’s effort to build a play space usable by her daughter and other children with disabilities, the project raised more than $1 million and opened in 1999 with themed play areas and accessibility features such as a large rubber play surface, accessible swings, and braille signs. The first disabled-accessible playground in Maryland, it became an early national model for inclusive design and later underwent renovations to address wear and safety needs.
