Ear Mountain is an 8,560-foot peak on Montana’s Rocky Mountain Front about 23 miles west of Choteau, rising sharply where the plains meet the Rockies. It stands on the boundary between Bureau of Land Management land and Lewis and Clark National Forest, near the Ear Mountain Wildlife Management Area. Its terrain is especially dramatic on the east side, which towers about 4,000 feet above the plains, while its southwest slope climbs 2,000 feet above South Fork Willow Creek in less than a mile. Drainage from the mountain feeds tributaries of the Teton River, and its subarctic climate brings long, bitter winters and relatively mild summers.
