In November 1796, Elder Patrick Mooney organized the first Baptist church in Sumner County. Its members joined with four other Baptist churches to form the Mero District Baptist Association. In 1800, William Phipps donated one-half acre of land to the congregation, and the church became known as Phipps Meeting House. The Leggett family gave additional land in the 1830s. The church remained along West Station Camp Creek until 1846, when the building was moved to the present location because of flooding. In 1867, it was known as the United Baptist Church of Christ at Station Camp.
